Embark on an enriching journey through the scenic Kalsubai Peak range to explore two historically significant Maratha strongholds: Vishramgad and Bitangad. Experience the contrasting legacies of Vishramgad, the famous royal resting place of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and the steep, commanding watchtower of Bitangad. Featuring newly developed forest trails, scenic windmills, and deep historical roots dating back to the 17th-century Mughal-Maratha conflicts, this easy-grade dual-fort trek is perfect for history buffs and nature lovers alike.
Tour Highlights & Must-See Attractions:
The Royal Retreat (Vishramgad): Walk the historic grounds where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj rested with his army, leading to the fort being officially renamed to ‘Vishramgad’.
Ancient Architecture: Explore Vishramgad’s fascinating ruins, including the royal Rajwada, the Ambarkhana, and the Darukhana (the ancient armory and weapon storage facility).
Sacred Shrines: Visit the Pattai Devi temple and the serene cave shrine of Shri Laxmangiri Maharaj, a significant spiritual gathering site during the full moon (Poornima).
Bitangad Watchtower: Summit this steep, compact “spy fort” that served as a crucial vantage point for the Maratha Empire to monitor surrounding trade routes and regional movements.
Untold Maratha History: Uncover the fierce history of Bitangad, famously documented in a December 1682 letter by Mughal commander Rahulla Khan detailing his fiery siege on the Maratha settlement.
Scenic, Upgraded Trails: Enjoy a comfortable ascent starting from the quaint village of Pattewadi, walking along pathways and stone steps newly developed by the forest department, framed by massive windmills.

I had gone to Lingya ghat waterfall trek with Banjara outdoors. Ajay and Ravindra were the guides , they helped me in descending the slippery path down the waterfall . Overall the arrangements ,right from pick up point, lunch at the village vendor and drop off in the evening was smooth and well managed. We also visited Lavasa city too.Posted on Google![]()
